Interesting Case Heading To The Supreme Court

Lou Dobbs on CNN reported tonight that there is a case of reverse discremination heading to the supreme court. White and Latino firefighters in Connecticut claim they were denied promotions because of their race. The men had high scores on the city’s promotion test. The city threw out the test results because Black candidates didn’t score high enough to qualify for promotion. Click here to read the transcript from the show.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

I never had much respect, if any, for politicians. But usually I have respect for the leaders of our country, even if I didn't vote for them. (However) I thought Obama was going to gain that respect, but the longer he is in office the less hopeful I become. Leno appearance, Slamming the Handicapped, and Bracket picks? Seriously? Do President's have publicists? I get it...you want to be one with the people, Mr. Obama. That is why you were elected. You possessed that element of real-ness. But now that you are in office, it's important that you behave, at least present yourself, like a President. It is hard for me to have confidence in a leader who doesn't act like he is taking the job seriously. He needs to step back and rethink how he handles his new found "fame". I don't mean to offend those who support Obama. I just disagree with some of the things he has done recently. I guess it's the conservative in me coming out.

Interesting Video from The Kudlow Reoprt

I happend to catch The Kudlow Report on TV while at the gym. I don't usually watch these shows because I do not like politics or stocks, but I found this interesting.

Here are a few highlights from the video:

~Since Obama took office, the DOW has fallen by 20%
~Since Obama took office, the S&P 500 has fallen by 19%
~Since Obama took office, financial stocks have declined by 37%

Analyst are also saying this recession could last up to 36 months.

This Is How Government Is Spending The Stimulus Money

It was reported today that part of the stimulus package is going towards television converter boxes. The agency that mails out the $40 coupons ran out of money. So guess what? The President approved part of the stimulus package be allocated towards MORE free television converter boxes. Seriously? Whatever happened to "While Supplies Last"? There is so much more this money can go towards. It should not be the Government's responsibility to make sure that Edna in Gerty, OK can watch "The Wheel" on her 20 year old TV with bunny ear antennas wrapped in tin foil.

Why Is It Un-cool To Be A Republican?

Once again I am reminded of politics with the inaguration in full swing. It makes me think about things like, why is it so un-cool to be republican? Why let one bad apple spoil the bunch (which I don't agree with 100%)? I just don't get it. I feel as if republicans are judged as a stereotype. I have always been and will always be a republican, but I am also pro-choice, for gay marriage, and anti-guns. So how does that fit in to the stereotype of a typical republican?

Is Anyone Suprised?

It's 10:07 CST. Is anyone surprised about who was just elected president just seconds ago? If you didn't see this one coming then you have been living under a rock or have no social awareness whatsoever. I am watching the news and people are going ape-shit. Pandemonium has ensued.

It's Just a Matter of Time

Are you ready for the election results?

Celebrities and Politics

In an article by Us Weekly, Carrie Underwood shares her opinion about celebrities and politics. I have always said Politics and Religion should be kept private...no matter who you are. It just causes so much tension and unrest. I agree with Carrie Underwood (well not the whole respect thing, but you get the idea).

Carrie Underwood: I "Lose All Respect" for Stars When They Back a Candidate"

"There is someone I do support, but I don't support publicly," she tells TV Guide, as excerpted by Just Jared. "I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.

"It's saying that the American public isn't smart enough to make their own decisions," she goes on. "I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to."

Perez Hilton posted on his blog that her statement was unfair. He says that this is America and she should appreciate how people express themselves politically. Well, Perez...this is her opinion on the subject. Is it not a right as an American for Carrie Underwood to express her opinion too? I know when I express my views on this matter, I generalize. I am not saying that EVERYONE is swayed by the media. Generalizing is the key word here. The one thing I do know is that our culture has become celebrity obsessed and with that being said, I can certainly see how they can sway anyone undecided or anyone who doesn't do their homework. Isn't that their motive in the first place?

Elizabeth Hasselbeck

I was thinking back on the past year and all the fights that have been brought to the forefront on The View. I actually feel bad for Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Poor girl tries to speak her mind and voice her opinion, but she gets viciously shut down by the other women on the show. Everyone is entiled to their opinion and just because she is the only right wing person on the show doesn't mean she doesn't deserve respect. I know the other women feel strongly about their opinions, but how is that different from EH feeling strongly about hers? Is it ok for the other women to gang up on her and make it seem like she is 100% wrong for speaking her mind? They don't have to agree with her, but to bully her like they do is wrong. I know a lot of you reading this might not agree with my "view" about this, and that's ok with me. This was just on my mind and I felt like speaking my opinion. This is also why I hate politics. It can get so heated and personal.

Amen Kid Rock (I know, weird. Right?)

One of the reasons I hate politics is exactly what Kid Rock talks about below. I am not a fan of Kid Rock, and I love me some Oprah, but I am so on board with the general statement he makes below:

"I truly believe that people like myself, who are in a position of entertainers in the limelight, should keep their mouth shut on politics. Because at the end of the day, let me tell you what I 'm good at: I'm good at writing songs and singing. What I'm not educated in is the field of political science. And so for me to be sharing my views and influencing people of who I think they should be voting for … I think would be very irresponsible on my part. So I'll just keep my mouth shut on that. I think celebrity endorsements hurt politicians. Because as soon as somebody comes out for a politician, especially in Hollywood, when they all go, 'I'm voting for this guy!' — I go, 'That's not who I'm voting for!' … As soon as Oprah Winfrey pops up and goes 'Ha-la-la-la-la,' I'm like, 'I love Barrack Obama. I hate Oprah Winfrey.' I don't hate her. I just don't believe in her, so I don't want any part of any of that. I think celebrities hurt politicians."

Politics Are Frustrating

The more I think about this election, the more it makes me cringe. It seems like today people are either way left or way right. What about those who are in the middle? Why can't there be a candidate that represents the good aspects from both parties? Stuck in the middle...normally that's a good, neutral place to be. However, it makes voting really hard. Uggg...politics.

Tina Fey for VP?

I am not a very political person, and honestly, I probably won't even vote this go around (I know...so un-American...yada yada yada). However, Sarah Palin is just great! I like the fact that she presents herself as a real person. It is nice to see a nominee not be all about business. I like how Sarah Palin put herself out there as a hard working family person who most everyone can relate to. Her teenage daughter is pregnant and the media has had a field day with it. Really, all families have hard times and hurdles to overcome. The media should not make it such an issue and I don't think that is fair.

Sarah Palin's speech was fantastic. Being a sister of a special needs child, her speech really touched me when she stated that the parents for special needs children will have an advocate in the White House. How often do you hear politicians mention anything other than political issues, economy issues, or healthcare? Yes, you can lump in the special needs children with healthcare, but for her to address it like she did was great. I like that. I like Sarah Palin. Plus Tina Fey is going to have a good gig with SNL this fall because of her!
